Construction work for the Helsinki 2012 European Athletics Championships has already begun at the Olympic Stadium, and Ramirent has made its first deliveries to the very core of the Championships. Ramirent Finland Oy is responsible for all construction machines, fencing, access platforms, horizontal transportation equipment, site modules and their installation at the Championships. Ramirent is also responsible for all scaffolding work.
Different types of machinery and equipment have already been delivered to the event venue at the Olympic Stadium, including 260 metres of fences for the temporary protection of the site, and a 10-foot steel container for storage use.
The Championships are less than a month away, so things are getting busy at the site. The installation of site modules will begin next week, with up to 45 modules being delivered. “Installation of the actual protective fencing will start in a couple of weeks around the VIP facilities in the Event Park and around the Eläintarha Sports Field. It now looks like we will be installing about two kilometres of fencing,” says Kyösti Sandell, Regional Sales Manager at Ramirent Finland Oy.
Ramirent will also begin its installation work at the same time. For example, Ramirent is responsible for the foundation work in the VIP tent area, the construction of the technical tower required for televising the events, as well as for building access ways.
When compared to Ramirent’s other projects, this is a relatively large project – and a highly interesting one. Working as a team with various stakeholders and a very tight schedule also make the project quite demanding. Other challenges in the project include a large number of installations within a short time span, security arrangements, numerous operators from different fields, permit issues and other arrangements differing from normal construction sites, as well as the unique location right next to the centre of Helsinki. In addition, the high internal expectations create additional pressure for the success of the project. Like all our other projects, we want to complete this one perfectly.
