A site where several different companies work at the same time and share a limited space is complex and accident-prone. When you add busy traffic into the mix, things become even more complicated. To avoid safety risks and keep expenses in check, it’s important to plan the project and map out its many moving parts in advance. This was done with YIT’s Tripla project in Finland.
Today’s preparation determines tomorrow’s achievement.
New technologies and solutions are making worksites more advanced. At the same time, new ways to increase the efficiency of projects emerge. Ramirent offers services to make every day at worksites smoother, allowing our customers to focus on their core business. The sooner we get to participate in a project, the better we can tailor our total solutions to match the customer’s needs. This way, we help the environment and also save energy, money, time – and even lives.
Well, what does this mean in practice? We simply make sure that the flow of people, materials and equipment at the worksite works like a well-oiled machine. By doing this, we can ensure that the needed equipment and deliveries arrive at the right place at the right time. When it comes to YIT Tripla, several factors come together in a logistically challenging environment. There are 480 companies in total in the worksite’s register. The number of companies that are active on the worksite varies from a few dozen to more than a hundred. Organizing a crew this big requires logistics expertise – which Ramirent provides.
Hard at work in Pasila
In summer 2016, we were very happy to announce our partnership with YIT at the Tripla worksite in Helsinki, in the district of Pasila. It is a large undertaking where we deliver equipment rental services and other worksite services, such as logistics planning, worksite traffic management and chemicals management.
With Tripla, a new urban center full of life will be born in Pasila at the start of the next decade. To gain a better understanding of the scope of the project, it’s a good idea to consider the size of a football field – and then imagine the size of 50 football fields! Tripla’s total volume equals a project the size of ten Finnish Parliament Houses. It comprises a shopping mall, apartments, hotels, offices and a parking hall. The Pasila railway station will also become part of Tripla.
Plans made well in advance accelerate all types of projects, but, in projects of this magnitude, the significance of preparation is even more pronounced. The Tripla worksite is located in a very busy area. This sets strict safety requirements and high quality criteria for everyone involved. For instance, when it comes to safety, we can’t simply focus on what happens within the walls of the worksite. The hustle and bustle of the surrounding city affects transportation, and waste management needs to roll without a hitch through the project, which spans several years. It’s not enough that we plan the locations of unloading places and storage areas as well as access to them just once. As the project moves forward, the worksite changes, and this needs to be taken into account in logistics planning. A more defined logistics plan is done for the next six months and, in addition, matters are discussed weekly and even daily.
Tackling challenges together
Tripla’s size may seem pretty scary to many, but we see it as a great possibility to offer almost all our services on a single worksite. Thanks to our broad offering, even a large-scale project like YIT Tripla can be planned as a whole, with all its sections known, down to the very last detail. When you can acquire everything from one reliable partner, the contractor’s work is that much easier.
Together with our customers and employees, we develop our operations and services continuously. Through innovations, new approaches and smart services, we make construction safer and more efficient. And we overcome challenges together.
