Ramirent is the first company in the equipment rental sector to receive SBTi approval
– Helping to demonstrate the low carbon credentials of its own operations
Ramirent, as part of the Loxam Group, was awarded Science Based Targets (SBTi) approval for its emission reduction targets, the first company in the machinery rental industry worldwide to do so. This international initiative encourages companies to set emission reduction targets based on climate science, and also takes into account indirect emissions.
The Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative has been rapidly gaining popularity, especially among large companies, since the Paris Climate Agreement was signed in 2015.
“Businesses are driven by their own principles, general environmental awareness and ever stricter environmental legislation. Together, these factors will inevitably drive both public decision-making and funding for low-carbon projects,” says Sampo Sipari, Head of Sustainability, Ramirent Group.
Ramirent committed to the SBTi initiative as part of the Loxam Group in February 2022, pledging to reduce its direct emissions by 50% and its indirect emissions by 30% by 2030, compared to 2019 levels.
Indirect emissions account for as much as 95% of Ramirent’s total emissions. They are mainly generated by the use of rental machinery by the customer.
“It is important that indirect emissions are also taken into account so that we can present results reliably. At best, low-emission equipment combined with low-emission transport solutions enables our customers to have a zero-emission project for their machinery rental,” says Sipari.
“Our key objective is to help construction companies on their way to low- or even zero-emission projects.”
Ramirent received SBTi approval for its action plan as part of the Loxam Group in December 2023.
